How does an online classroom work?
The classes are taught online using google hangout and scripts are uploaded onto google drive. Although it may seem a bit complicated, it's very easy to use and you can take the class anywhere. The class operates using a writers' workshop format. Each writer uploads 7-10 pages of what they've worked on each week (you can bring in a new play, old play or an outline). It's then read aloud by your fellow classmates - you will see everyone online. I give notes and then your fellow classmates ask constructive questions about the work using the Liz Lehrman critical response method.
How much are classes, how often do they meet and how long are they?
Classes meet once a week. They are taught in over the course of either 4 weeks or 8 weeks. The four week class is $200 and the eight week class is $400. Class are capped at six students.
When are the classes held?
Classes are held during the day and on Monday and Tuesday nights and Wednesday or Friday morning.
Class times are flexible. Daytimes are ideal for older students. I have taught many retired people who want to try their hand at writing for the stage.
Can an absolute beginner take a playwriting class?
Yes, I recommend that your first class be Tuesday night or one of the morning classes.
What if I hate it? Can I get my money back?
If you hate the class or feel it isn't right for you, you can get your money back minus the classes you have taken. However, after class three, no refunds will be given.
What if I miss a class? Can I get my money back for individually missed classes?
Unfortunately because I teach a number of students, I cannot give refunds for missed classes. On average, students do miss an average of one or two classes (per session).
What do I do with my play after I finished it? Can you get my play read?
I do not arrange readings of play, however, I can help you craft a submission letter, a brief synopsis and pinpoint which theaters will accept your script for a possible reading/production.
